Uninsured women in Barbados can now receive free breast cancer screenings, thanks to a timely partnership between Diagnostic Radiology Services (DRS) and Cancer Support Services (CSS). Through this collaboration, women without insurance who are referred by CSS can access free mammograms and ultrasounds at DRS.
With Barbados having the second-highest breast cancer rate in the Caribbean and high mortality, early detection is crucial. This initiative aims to improve health equity and save lives.
Ms Joy Bowen, Office Manager at Diagnostic Radiology Services, shared her enthusiasm for supporting the uninsured community on the island. “At Diagnostic Radiology Services, we’re equipped with a modern, AI-powered 3D mammography unit designed for women’s comfort.
During October, we offered this service for $75, but we wanted to do more. Through our referral agreement with Cancer Support Services, we aim to ease the burden for individuals and families who desperately need these screenings but cannot afford them.”
