Please enjoy the sixth story in our series “The Loving Kindness Project”:
Hi, my name is Kathy. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011.
I had found a lump while taking a shower. I was in disbelief at first. I thought it was probably nothing serious. After a few weeks had passed I went to the doctor and had some tests done—a mammogram and a biopsy.
The tests confirmed that I had breast cancer. I was very emotional at the time—I could not believe what was happening to me. I then had to get chemo to shrink the lumps in my right breast. A few months later I had a mastectomy to remove the breast.
During my chemo treatments I received assistance from Cancer Support Services. Jan and Debbie were there for me, supporting me through my ordeal. I thank them very much. Without them and my family and friends, I don’t know how I would have been able to make it.
Having received treatment and surgery, I was ill and very weak, but I realized that having people there to help you and be there for you gives you everything you need to fight Cancer. I thank God for Cancer Support Services, Jan and Debbie and also for my friends and family. I thank them for their love and support.
