Since July of 2011, Cancer Support Services has hosted Tuesday morning art classes at their offices on Belmont Road.
Buoyed by the unwavering support and encouragement by Cancer Support Services’ Executive Director, Ms. Jan Lynton, participants have enjoyed learning new skills, making new friends and feeling part of a community.
Classes are held in a kind and supportive environment and encourage participants to put a little art in their everyday while enjoying some “me time”. Class sessions run from 1.5 – 2 hours and are available to those journeying through cancer as well as the member volunteers of the charity.
Tuesday May 12th marks the first Art Open Day of the Tuesday Morning Art Group. The select group of artists includes Pam Goodman, Adalia Agard, Janice Leacock, Carmen Taitt and Sandra Blenman. The exhibition features work by these artists in a variety of media including pen and ink, mixed media, watercolour, mono-printing with acrylics, and paper making. The group is also pleased to feature a very special guest artist, Pastor Paul Leacock whose portrait work is quite exceptional.
The group, which has been meeting for almost 4 years, started simply, with a marker and piece of paper, and doodled. As time went on they developed skills and took on more artistic challenges. Participants embraced their creative side and discovered that we are all creative. Upon reflection, participants agree that it has been a very worthwhile journey.
The group welcomes new members and no experience is necessary. Please contact the offices of Cancer Support Services at 228-7081 for more information.
