The Victorious Ladies’ Group
The Victorious Ladies’ Group is the women’s support group of Cancer Support Services (CSS). It was the brain child of former President of CSS, Mr. Aubrey Blackett, who was extremely touched by the unusual number of ladies diagnosed with breast cancer, who attended one of the monthly General Body Meetings.
The group consists of ladies ranging from those recently diagnosed, and currently undergoing treatment, to seven year survivors. The initial meeting was held in October 2011, with six members who were very eager to meet and share the camaraderie with others. In February 2012, the group was officially launched during a church service at the Covenant Life Teaching Centre, when Pastor Wesley Dear bestowed blessings upon the ladies. To date there is a membership of forty.
The aim of the group is to offer each other emotional and spiritual support, and with God’s help to “raise each other up” through a number of enrichment programmes. These include lecture/discussions on health issues and other areas of interest, sharing experiences, testimonies and information, or taking part in social activities. Although the group meets once a month, the Buddy System, a main feature of the group, provides an opportunity for the ladies to maintain regular contact to lend necessary support and encouragement. Knowing that laughter is the best medicine and so is a positive attitude, when the ladies meet there is much fun and enjoyment in the atmosphere.
According to Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” This is the hope with which the ladies journey.
